Dr. Walter E.  Kimmick
KIMMICK – Dr. Walter E., 89, Jenner Township, died Feb. 8, 2016, at Siemons Lakeview Manor, Somerset. Born Feb. 8, 1927, in California, son of Walter Lyons and Gladys E. (Bulmer) Kimmick. Preceded in death by parents; son, Bradley, on Dec. 26, 2009; and Walter’s wife and mother of his children, the former Margaret Ann McElroy. Survived by children, Walter David, married to Nancy Petrill, Ligonier; Susan R. Kimmick, Jenner Township; Scott A., and wife, Lissette, Florida; and Michael C. and Bettina J. Kay, Bakersville; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Kathy Kimmick, Jenner Township; and sister, Patricia Kirkley, Columbus, Ohio. A graduate of Wilkinsburg High School, Washington & Jefferson College and the University of Pittsburgh, having graduated second in his dental class. During his student years, he worked for Westinghouse Corp. He was in dental practice for 65 years in the Churchill (Pittsburgh) and Somerset County areas. He was the head dental instructor at the University of Pittsburgh for many years. Walter was a born again Christian and a devout follower of Jesus Christ. He was one of the founding fathers of Churchill High School Hockey Team. He was a noted tree grafter in his home apple orchard and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Following his active service, he served an internship at Walter Reed Hospital, Baltimore, Md. Visitation will be held from noon until time of service at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hoffman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 409 Main St., Boswell, Pastor Bruce Metz, officiating. A veterans memorial service will be provided by Somerset County Honor Guard. Memorials to New Hope Community Church, Stoystown, c/o Pastor Metz, 1190 Grand View Ave., Everett, Pa. 15537, would be appreciated.
