PANASCI – Nicholas A., 66, Jerome, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Feb. 22, 2016, at his home. Born June 18, 1949, in Johnstown. Preceded in death by father, Nicholas Panasci; paternal grandparents, Anthony and Carmela (Pelleriti) Panasci; maternal grandparents, Sylvester F. and Cora (Shaulis) Baer; and niece, Treena Burkett Roddy, who passed away Dec. 10, 2013. Survived by loving mother, Arlene F. (Baer) Panasci, Somerset; children, Angela Marie Hoffman, Jerome; Sonya Jean Garrety, Somerset; Anthony Panasci, and wife, Gloria, Boswell; and Dr. Nikki S. Panasci, Orlando, Fla.; sisters, Kathleen A., married to Les Brilhart, and Lori J. Panasci, both of Somerset; and former wife, Barbara S. (Hamilton) Panasci, Jerome. Lovingly known as “Pap” to his grandchildren, Tyler Mishler, and wife, Carlee Jo; Samantha Mishler; Christina, Brianna and Victor Panasci; and Ashley Emerick, and husband, Bruce; and stepgranddaughters, Melissa Hall and Brittany Rugg. Also survived by five great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; one great-niece; nephew, Richard “Shane” Burkett, and wife, Missy (Lape), Friedens; aunt, Verna Mae Hoffman; and uncle, Arthur Baer, both of Somerset; and his Richland Dialysis family. He attended Conemaugh Township High School and later received his GED. Member of Jerome Volunteer Fire Company for many years, where he was fire chief for 30 years and mentor to all. He was state certified for vehicle rescue and fire fighter 1 and 2, both as an officer and instructor. He was a certified EMT for 28 years. Nick was dedicated to and loved being a part of the fire company as well as his community, where he resided all his life. Even though his health diminished, he still enjoyed calling bingo and mowing the grounds at the fire hall. Formerly employed by Hoffman Mining (formerly Shade Mining) for 26 years, as a drag line operator. Before Nick’s health took a turn for the worse, he was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved to ride his motorcycle. He was a lifetime member of NRA. He had a passion for cooking and loved to be creative with food and enjoyed sharing his creations and recipes. He also was an avid gardener and was especially proud of his garlic. Nick loved people and enjoyed talking to everyone and always had a joke or story to tell to whomever would listen. He was loved by all who truly knew him and will be missed tremendously. Viewing will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Pastor Samuel L. Coughenour, presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Jerome Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
