ZABLOTNY - Joseph, 93, Boswell, died April 16, 2016, at In Touch Hospice, Somerset. Born Feb. 20, 1923, in Boswell, son of Lawrence and Caroline (Gambolic) Zablotny. Preceded in death by parents; son, Joseph J., May 17, 1983; sisters, Anna Wiencek and Julia Fisher; brothers, John, Walter, Stanley and Frank; and mother- and father-in-law, Josephine and Jacob Rice. Survived by wife of 66 years, former Betty O. Rice; daughters, Diane, married to Charles Pugh, Champion, and Cheryl, married to Mike Friedline, Friedens; granddaughter, LaDawn, married to Doug Yesho, New Alexandria; sister-in-law, Gloria Pope, Fishertown; beloved dog, Chloe; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graduate of former Boswell High School, where he excelled in basketball. Navy veteran of World War II and Korean War, having proudly served on the USS Newcomb (DD586) during World War II, and greatly enjoyed numerous Navy reunions. Retired employee of former Johnstown Plant, Bethlehem Steel, and North Star schools. Also was a passionate watchmaker and jeweler. Member of the National Watchmaker Association. Viewing will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hoffman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 409 Main St., Boswell, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Pastor Nathan Zipfel, officiating.
