Samuel J.  Turillo
TURILLO - Samuel J., 90, Jennerstown, died March 4, 2017 at Laurel View Village, Davidsville. Born November 3, 1926 in Jennerstown. Son of Giuseppe “Joseph” and Rosa (Rascona) Turillo. Preceded in death by parents, step-mother Concettina (Cottoni) Turillo, infant brother Joseph and sister Frances M. Holsopple. Survived by wife of 62 years Patricia J. (Shirk) Turillo; children Jana R. married to Mark Von Lunen, Davidsville; Cynthia T. married to Todd Sutton, Boswell and Joseph A. married to Angela (Fagan) Turillo, Easley, SC; grandchildren Christina married to Matt Pienkowski, Greensburg; Scott J. Sutton, Jennerstown; Matthew R. and wife Carolyn (Riley) Von Lunen, Nashville, TN and Peter H. Von Lunen and finace Alyssa Mangus, Johnstown; sisters Theresa Petrillo, Harrisburg and Josephine married to Fred Marker, Somerset; brother Carmello married to Maureen (Hale) Turillo, New Orleans, LA and numerous nieces and nephews. A 1944 graduate of Somerset High School. A U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII where he served in the Pacific Theatre. Following graduation from a technical school in Chicago, IL, he was employed by Bendix Products in South Bend, Indiana where he met the love of his life Pat. He and Pat married September 4, 1954. In 1957, they moved to Jennerstown and purchased the Highway Café from Sam’s father. In 1966, he changed the name of the café to Turillo’s Steakhouse which he owned until it’s closing in 2015. Sam was also one of the founding owners of the Jennerstown Speedway. A member of All Saints Catholic Parish and the former St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Boswell. A 4th degree member of Our Lady of the Laurel Highlands Council 8908 Knights of Columbus. A life member of the Boswell Post 461 American Legion. Sam enjoyed golfing, gardening, watching NASCAR, hunting, going for walks and traveling to Florida. He especially treasured time playing with his grandchildren. Viewing from 2-4 & 6-8PM Friday, March 10 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main Street, Boswell where a vigil for the deceased will be held 2PM Friday. Funeral Mass at 10AM Saturday, March 11 at All Saints Church, Boswell with Rev. Fr. John Voytek, OFM Conv., celebrant. Committal Turillo Mausoleum at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Jennerstown with military honors by Somerset County Honor Guard. Donations in Sam’s memory may be sent to Laurel View Village Caring Fund, 2000 Cambridge Dr., Davidsville, PA 15928.
