Obituary for Eloise A. "Weez" Thomas (Maldet)

Eloise A. "Weez" Thomas (Maldet)
THOMAS - Eloise A. “Weez”, 74 of Conemaugh Township, Somerset County, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2017. She was born September 26, 1942, the daughter of the late Fred “Fritz” and Sara (Blough) Maldet of Ideal Park. She is survived by husband of 54 years Dennis W. Thomas and four children: Renee & Lance Oij of Weeki Wachee, FL, Dennis & Mary Beth Thomas of Chapel Hill, NC, Todd & Denise Thomas of Odessa, FL and Adam & Linda Thomas of Conemaugh Township. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren: Lance & Heather Oij, Erik Oij, Lindsay & Chris Reade, Zachary Oij, Kyle Thomas, Max Thomas, Grant Thomas, Evan Thomas, Kate Thomas, Hannah Thomas, Grace Thomas, Madison Thomas. She had three great grandchildren: Alex Szymanski, Calle Oij, & Aubrey Reade. Weez is also survived by brother Richard Maldet of Johnstown and many nieces & nephews. Weez & Denny had an eventful seventeen year retirement that included many adventures. She loved to travel and spent time in Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Fiji, Canada, Mexico, and seven Caribbean Islands. They spent many winters with their family in Florida and summer weeks at the beaches of North Carolina. They took several cross-country trips throughout the US & Canada including twelve visits to Alaska where they spent many summers enjoying The Last Frontier. Whether in Alaska, or boating the local lakes, or wading the small-mouth rivers of PA, Weez enjoyed the relaxation and peacefulness of a day spent fishing. Weez loved music including many artists, but she met her absolute favorite performer in Alaska in 2002. Alaska’s Hobo Jim went on to become good friends with both Denny & Weez and performed several times in Pennsylvania including their surprise 50th Wedding Anniversary. His songs always brought a smile to her face and a certain tap to her toes. Weez was a devoted wife and mother and had a genuine love of all that life had to offer. She enjoyed day trips with her friends, a good game of pinochle and was up for any adventure. She would never miss a game, concert, or musical as she proved to be her kids and grandkids biggest fan and cheerleader. Her vacant bleacher seat will sadden many Township fans. Weez fought several valiant battles with cancer. She beat the odds for quite some time, surely based on true love of her family and her sheer will to survive. Although no amount of time seems like enough, she used her bonus time to put the icing on a life well lived. Gran will be greatly missed and always loved! Viewing from 6-8PM Monday and 2-4 & 6-8PM Tuesday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville. A funeral service will be held 10AM Wednesday at Tire Hill Church of the Brethren with Pastor Pete Kaltenbaugh and Pastor Brian Simmons presiding. Interment Stahl Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to Windber Hospice, 600 Somerset Ave., Windber, PA 15963.
