Owen D.  Hershberger
HERSHBERGER - Owen D., 98, Laurel View Village, Davidsville, formerly of Owens Road, Johnstown, died May 3, 2017 at Laurel View Village. Born June 18, 1918 in Conemaugh Township, Somerset County. Son of Edwin and Lizzie (Eash) Hershberger. Preceded in death by parents; brothers Albert, Wilbert, Melvin, Ralph and Glenn; sisters Olive Hancock, Bessie Parkinson, Annie Fronzoli and Mary Meszaros; infant brothers Roy and Paul; infant sister Mae and son in law Warren Davidhizar. Survived by wife of nearly 79 years Beulah (Eash) Hershberger; children Joan married to Marlin Sala, Gilbertsville, PA; David married to Sarah (Lauman), Perkiomenville, PA; Joyce married to Jack Horner, Hollsopple; Dwight married to Joan (Kennell), Eureka, IL; Dennis married to Lorraine (Guzzardo), Schwenksville, PA and Janice married to Robert Seager, Belleville, PA; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Active member of Thomas Mennonite Church, Thomas Mills. Volunteer for Laurel View Village. Former board member of Johnstown Mennonite School. Employed for 21 years at the former Sheesley Construction Co., Johnstown. Retired from the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local #66, Pittsburgh. Owen enjoyed woodworking and carpentry. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Laurel View Village and Conemaugh Hospital for their kindness and compassion. Viewing from 2-4 & 6-8PM Friday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville. Viewing also from 10AM until time of service 11AM Saturday at Thomas Mennonite Church with Pastor Randall E. Schlabach presiding. Interment church cemetery. A memorial service will also be held at Laurel View Village at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Owen’s memory may be sent to Laurel View Village Caring Fund, 2000 Cambridge Dr., Davidsville, PA 15928.
