Julius A. "Jule" Salvia
SALVIA – Julius "Jule" A., 101, formerly of Boswell, died June 15, 2017 at the VA Medical Center, Altoona. Born June 13, 1916 in Pittsburgh. Son of Charles and Victoria (Passalacqua) Salvia. Preceded in death by parents, who formerly owned and operated the Boswell Hotel, wife of 42 years, former Margaret J. Brown, December 19, 2006, and sisters Anna Marie Pagano and Marietta Colucci. Survived by several nieces, nephews, special caretakers Lori Thomas and Cherree and Mike Pyle and special friends R.J. and Betty Chronowski and many other friends. A 1935 graduate of former Boswell High School. Following graduation, Jule joined the U.S. Army. He started out in the field artillery, where he learned to ride horses and then served in five battle campaigns with the 70th Infantry Division in Europe during W.W. II. Discharged in 1945 as a First Lieutenant after almost 10 years of service. Retired from Remington Shaver Division, Washington, D.C. Member of Boswell Fire Police since 1984, having served as Captain and Chaplain for many years. Also past Chaplain and financial secretary for Somerset-Cambria Fire Police Association. Member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Somerset, Pennsylvania Fire Police Association, Boswell Post #461 American Legion and Boswell Volunteer Fire Department. Recipient of Joseph H. Hoffman Community Service Award in 1989, presented by Boswell J.C.’s. Friends received from 2-5PM Sunday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main Street, Boswell where service will be held 10AM Monday, Deacon Jay Pyle officiating. Committal Mt.
