MAURER – Edward R., 82, Ralphton, died January 6, 2018 at In-Touch Hospice House. Born February 3, 1935 in Johnstown. Son of Howard Earl “Chick”, Sr. and Eleanor (Roberts) Maurer. Preceded in death by parents; brothers Howard, Jr. “Howdy”and Neil and brother-in-law John “Jack” Lohr. Survived by wife of 59 years, former Betty Ann Yost; children John Maurer, married to Pamela Krause, Jennerstown; Stacey, married to Dr. Randall L. Bittner, Virginia Beach, VA and William “Bill” Maurer, married to Deanna Fetz, Manchester, PA; grandchildren David, Carling and Brock Bittner, Virginia Beach, VA; Ryan Maurer, Pittsburgh and Kyle Maurer, Steelton, PA; step grandchildren LaShawna and Paul and great grandson, Aiden Carlson; brother of Connie Lohr, Middletown, PA and Craig, Richmond, Va. Also survived by sisters-in-law; Norma “Penny” (Weimer) Maurer, Pineville, LA; Mary Ellen (Bednarek) Maurer, Racine, WI and Doris (Yost) Gates, Somerset. 1954 graduate of former J.B.J. Joint High School. Longtime active member of St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Boswell for over 60 years where he served on council for many years. Also delivered meals on wheels. US Army veteran of Korean War. Charter member of Boswell Area Jaycees and proud to be the founding father whose proposal brought forth the Boswell Jaycees Holiday Basketball Tournament which celebrated it’s 51st year in 2017. Lifetime member of Somerset VFW Post 554, Somerset Aerie 1801 FOE, Stoystown American Legion Post 257 and the Jenner Rod and Gun Club. Greatly enjoyed golfing, traveling and hunting with his son Bill. Former service manager for BJ Maurer Motor Co. for 32 years having retired in 1990. Viewing will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Tuesday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main Street, Boswell. Viewing also from 10AM until the time of service 11AM Wednesday at St. Andrews Church. Rev. Jonathan Adams, officiating. Military services accorded at the church by the Somerset County Honor Guard.
