Obituary for Leo J. DeLuca Sr.

Leo J.  DeLuca Sr.
DeLuca – Leo J., Sr., 82, Boswell, died May 23, 2018 at his home. Born August 4, 1935 in Johnstown. Son of Bruno and Rosa (Policicchio) DeLuca. Preceded in death by parents; sisters Lena Jaber and Josephine Kowalczyk; brothers Mario and Alfred and an infant brother and sister. Survived by wife of 61 years Mary Ann (Kaniak) DeLuca; children Leo James, Jr. married to Ann (Riviera), Somerset; Rae Lynn married to William Budzina and Anthony “Tony” married to Colleen (Bucci), both of Boswell; grandchildren Jennifer Budzina, Richard DeLuca, Jill married to Justin Holsinger, Dustin DeLuca married to Kari (Stahl) and Samantha DeLuca; great-grandchildren Natalee Walker and Vincent and Genevieve DeLuca and baby Holsinger due in June; sisters Carmella Truscott, Johnstown and Virginia Cicala, Florida; brother Dominic “Chic”, Boswell; sister-in-law Joan Jerin, Barberton, OH; numerous nieces and nephews and special friends Doggie Ryan, Mike Phillips, Jake Henry and Ducky Matsko and many other friends. Member of class of 1953 J.B.J. Joint High School. A U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War where he served on the USS New Jersey. Employee of Boswell Post 461 American Legion where he was Steward and member for 62 consecutive years. He also worked in construction and helped build route 219. Former Mayor of Boswell Borough. Member of Jenner Rod & Gun Club, Jerome Polish Falcons, New Baltimore Sportsmen, Somerset County Oldtimers Baseball Assoc. and All Saints Catholic Parish. Former pitcher for Oakbrook Slow Pitch Softball championship team. Leo loved life! He also loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially his “baby” Samantha. He enjoyed Sunday dinners with his family and going to the Rod & Gun Club and the casinos in Pittsburgh. Leo also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved his friends and his friends loved him. He was a special man with a big heart and would help anyone in need. His greatest joy was making people laugh and telling stories and jokes. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Viewing from 2-8PM Friday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main Street, Boswell where a vigil for the deceased will be held 2PM Friday. Funeral Mass 10AM Saturday at All Saints Catholic Church, Boswell with Rev. Fr. John Voytek, OFM Conv., celebrant. Committal Mt. Carmel Cemetery with military honors by Somerset County Honor Guard.
