Obituary for Thomas Alan Bush

BUSH - Thomas Alan, Berlin, died Jan. 1, 2019, at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh following a heroic battle with acute myeloid leukemia. Tom was born July 13, 1947, in Indiana, PA, the son of Harold M. and Jean (Vargo) Bush. He is survived by his loving wife, Pam; and sons, Brad (Joy) of Oregon and Eric (Angie) of Arizona; and a granddaughter, Verla L. Bush of Oregon. He is also survived by his mother; brothers, David and Craig of Oregon; and sister Joan Menhorn of Berlin. Tom is a 1965 graduate of Berlin Brothersvalley High School and Pacific University of Portland, Oregon. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era and spent nearly his entire adult life in Oregon - returning to Berlin in February of 2018. Tom's passion was sports - particularly basketball and baseball. He played college baseball and coached for 13 years at Willamette University as well as Central Linn Junior High School in Halsey, Oregon. Additionally, he played professionally for the Portland Beavers. He also enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers, New York Yankees and Penn State football. At Tom's request, there will be no visitation. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
