WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO PREPLAN YOUR FUNERAL?
The best time to begin making your prearrangements is now, while you're thinking about it. While some people in their 40's and 50's may think it's too early to preplan, people who do say that prearranging their funerals is smart financial planning and gives them added peace of mind knowing they aren't leaving this burden to family members. By taking time now to collect cost information and calmly making choices related to your own funeral arrangements, you'll be protecting your family against the stress of having to make these decisions at a time of extreme emotional stress. This way you can carefully choose specific items you want and need ... and pay for them now. Prepaid investments through funeral homes allow families to fund their funerals in advance through different investment vehicles.
While it's important to have the type of funeral you want, it's also equally, if not more important to keep your family's wishes in mind when planning your funeral. After all your funeral is not for you, it's for your family and friends.
BENEFITS OF PRE-PLANNING
Today, more individuals and families are making the decision to prearrange their funerals than ever before. Because of the factors such as inflation, fewer extended family members living close by, and other changes in our society, planning your own funeral can make a lot of sense. In a recent survey, these were the most common reasons people gave for prearranging their own funerals:
ENJOY PEACE OF MIND
Your service will reflect your wishes, because you took the time to preplan and personalize your funeral
You will be satisfied knowing you have relieved your family and friends of future financial and emotional burdens
You have made a wise financial decision by prefunding your funeral expenses
Now is the time to plan when you can think clearly while making these important decisions.
WHAT IS PREPLANNING?
Today, more and more people are planning their funerals in advance. Preplanning, or prearranging, as this is commonly known, is simply taking care of your service details before the need arises. Working together with a Licensed Funeral Director, who has special training and experience will assure these details will be taken care of.
Do you want a traditional funeral or simple memorial service? Burial or cremation? In addition, you can choose to personalize specific items such as people to notify, location, readings or favorite songs, flowers, clothing, and anything else that is important to you.
Make your wishes known
Your family and friends don’t have to guess what you want when you share your thoughts with them. And, by putting it in writing, you can be sure you’ll get the service you would like. However, while it is important to have the type of funeral you want, it's also equally, if not more important to keep your family's wishes in mind when planning your funeral. After all your funeral is not for you, it's for your family and friends. See "The Value of a Funeral" for more information.
Personalize Your Service
Create a positive celebration! With preplanning, those close to you will know what you would like highlighted about the life you’ve lived, so they can commemorate the “real you.”
Be Satisfied, Knowing you have relieved an Emotional Burden for Your Family
Planning a special service after losing a loved one is never easy. It’s already a highly emotional time, and when they don't know your final wishes, planning a service brings added stress to those you love.
HOW DO YOU PREPLAN?
It’s as easy as A-B-C! And our plan assistance service to you is FREE!
A. Collect Personal Information
This includes gathering all the facts that you will want people to remember: your biographical information, career, hobbies, family and friends. You can include any other special interest you have to help make your service even more meaningful for those who attend.
B. Make Appointment to discuss your Arrangements
When ready, you can sit down with one of our Funeral Directors who will explain the various options available. This information will help you determine your choice of service and any other ideas you may have for your remembrance. A statement of your service selections will then be kept at the funeral home until needed. And we do NOT charge a fee for assisting you in making your plans.
C. Prefund Your Funeral
Funeral prices, like other things, increase over time. By prefunding, you can protect yourself from inflation and future price increases. Prefunding can also help relieve the financial burden on those close to you. Handling the costs of a funeral, and possibly overspending because they weren’t certain of your wishes, can be extremely stressful and even a hardship. By taking care of these expenses in advance, it allows your survivors to focus on remembering you and celebrating your life.
There are a variety of prefunding options available. Your funeral director would welcome the opportunity to sit down and go through these with you.
