Life Story for M. Edith Avery (Deist)

AVERY – M. Edith (Deist), 93, Dover, Pa., formerly of Boswell, died Jan. 9, 2012, at home. Born March 29, 1918, in Glade City, Pa., daughter of Benjamin and Ada (Meese) Deist. Preceded in death by parents; husband of 77 years, Luther A. Avery, on Sept. 28, 2011; brothers, Daniel, Donald and Dalton; and sisters, Evelyn Gohn and Emily Deist. Survived by children, Shirley, married to Robert Miller, Jefferson Township, Pa.; Charles, married to the former Dorothy Shaffer, Byers, Colo.; Eileen, married to Terry Kirkpatrick, Mansfield, Ohio; Lois, married to Robert Jacobs, Dover; and Gary, married to the former Sandy Heltzel, Hanover; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Member of Lighthouse Baptist Church, Dover. Edith enjoyed tending to her flowers and vegetable garden and making quilts and afghans. She was a seamstress for the former Dorfman & Hoffman Garment Factory, Boswell, and Bernstein & Sons, York. She also was employed by the Dover Area School District. Memorial service will be held at noon Saturday at Leber Funeral Home, Shiloh, Pa. Following cremation, interment will be held at Jenner Crossroads Cemetery.
