Obituary for Fern V. Yarnick (Reed)

YARNICK – Fern V. (Reed), 85, LaurelWood Care Center, Westmont, formerly of Vinco, Richland Towers, Quemahoning Towers, Country Living Estates and South Fork Welcome Home, died March 2, 2015, at LaurelWood. Born Jan. 30, 1930, in Johnstown, daughter of Elmer and Edna (Wicknick) Reed. Preceded in death by parents and former husband, Roger D. Yarnick. Survived by daughter, Kathleen A., married to David W. Patterson, Davidsville; twin sons, Roger L. and William L. Yarnick, both of Richland; grandchildren, Alayna and Stephen Patterson and Dean Yarnick; brothers, Jim Reed, widower of Jean (Sellman), Johnstown; Robert Reed, and wife, Dorothy, Fort Wayne, Ind.; and Ken Reed, and wife, Helen, Johnstown; special “best friend,” Joni Susko, South Fork Welcome Home; and special friend at LaurelWood Care Center, Kathy Parseghian. She was an aunt to many nieces and nephews and a friend to everyone. A 1947 graduate of Johnstown High School and attended UPJ. Past employee of Cambria County Courthouse, United Cerebral Palsy, Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital and freelance writer for the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat. Member of First Presbyterian Church, South Fork, and the Christian Writing Club. Former member of Maple Spring Church of the Brethren, Hollsopple. Volunteer for Vinco Church of the Brethren, Ebensburg State School and Scalp Level Church of the Brethren. Fern’s passion was descriptive writing. Four of her books were published. She was so proud of her three grandchildren and she enjoyed spending time with them. She also liked sewing and gardening. Viewing will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Maple Spring Church of the Brethren, the Rev. Guy Myers, presiding. No viewing at the church. Interment, Forest Lawn Cemetery.
