Obituary for James "Sonny" Johns Jr.

JOHNS – James, Jr. “Sonny”, 76, Davidsville, formerly of New Jersey, died March 25, 2017 at his home. Born November 17, 1940 in New Castle. Son of James, Sr. and Anna (Esper) Johns. Preceded in death by parents and step mother Gladys Johns. Survived by loving wife and best friend Crystal (Tietsworth) Johns; children James A. Johns and wife Traci, Indian Trail, NC; Ruby married to Ryan Broughton, Port Norris, NJ; Holly Neill and companion Jemel Goolsby, Johnstown and Jeffrey Neill, Davidsville; grandchildren Brooke and Rylee Johns, Lauryn Broughton, Erik Wynder and Jason and Drew Neill; sister Louise Dout-Peri and niece Beth Dout, both of East Lake, OH; aunts Freida (Johns) married to Tom Rohan, Youngstown, OH; Martha (Johns) Jacobs, New Castle and Lilian (Johns) Pelom, Durham, NC; special cousin Bill Esper and wife Donna, Butler and numerous other Esper and Johns family members. A U.S. Navy veteran of Vietnam War where he served as a Navy SEAL. He worked in Research and Development for Johnson & Johnson, Co. in New Jersey for 23 years. Following his retirement there, he then provided armed prisoner transport and armed security in New Jersey until his second retirement at age 71. He was an avid fisherman and spent many happy hours alone or with others doing what he loved most. A private memorial service will be held.
