Clarence C. "Cliff"  Harmon
HARMON – Clarence C. “Cliff”, 95, Jerome, died October 5, 2017 at The Patriot, Somerset. Born September 18, 1922 in Johnstown. Son of John and Maria J. (Williams) Harmon. Preceded in death by parents, wife of 70 years Margaretta J. (Shortt) Harmon on May 24, 2017, brothers William and Steve; sisters Mary “Kitty” Montgomery and Edna Oakman. Survived by children Cheryle J. married to Eric Scheppan, Statesville, NC; Rosalie G. married to Larry Emerick, Stoystown; Jeffrey B. and wife Kimberly, Vandergrift and Richard C. and wife Phyllis, Mechanicsburg; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A WWII veteran of the Army of the United States. He proudly served his country as a Tank Commander and was a decorated member of the 708 Amphibious, Company A in the Pacific Theater. He made 101 landings including the Marshall Islands, Mariana Islands including Saipan, Philippines and Ryukyu Islands including Okinawa. He was a recipient of the Philippine Liberation Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, 2 Bronze Battle Stars and 1 Bronze Arrowhead, World War II Army of Occupation Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Expert Infantry Badge, American Campaign Medal, American Defense Medal, WWII Victory Medal and Ribbon and Marksman Medal. A retired custodian for Conemaugh Township Area High School. Life member of Hollsopple Post 8861 VFW. Cliff was a lifelong resident of Jerome who enjoyed woodworking and gardening. A private family viewing will be held. Interment Maple Spring Cemetery, Jerome with full military honors by Somerset County Honor Guard. Arrangements by Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Davidsville. In lieu of flowers, donations in Clarence's memory may be sent to Somerset County Honor Guard, 139 W.
