Allan J.  Shandor
SHANDOR –Allan J., 80, Richmond, KY, formerly of Jenners, PA, died January 13, 2018, at Kenwood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond. Born June 24, 1937 in Pittsburgh, PA. Son of Elmer J. and Marjorie M. (Lynch) Shandor. Preceded in death by parents; brother George H. Shandor; sister-in-law Joyce Shandor; and nephew Benjamin Shandor. Survived by wife of 57 years Dorothy J. (Sheftic) Shandor; children Leslie A. married to John W. McCloughan, Grapevine, TX; Jeffrey A., Duncan, SC and Cynthia M. married to Michael S. Schwendeman, Richmond, KY; granddaughter Clare M. Schwendeman and brother Richard married to Marypat (Champion) Shandor, Waukesha, WI. Also survived by nieces Christine Hallanin (Michael) and Katie Keepman (Adam). Allan graduated from Bethel High School in Bethel Park, PA. He received a BS Degree in Math and History from California State Teachers College in Pennsylvania, and earned his Masters Degree in Guidance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He taught Math at both JBJ Joint High School in Boswell, PA, and Allegany Community College in Somerset, PA, and was a Guidance Counselor at both Windber High School in Windber, PA, and at Shade-Central City High School in Cairnbrook, PA. He retired in 1999 after 40 years of teaching. Allan served multiple terms as a member of both the North Star School District School Board and the Somerset County Vocational-Technical School Board. He was honored to serve as President of both boards. For many years he worked as Secretary-Treasurer with the local water company, and later was appointed as a board member of the Municipal Water Authority of Jenner Township. Allan was a lifelong Roman Catholic and a longtime member of All Saints Parish in Boswell, PA, where he served as a lector, Finance Council member, CCD teacher, and Eucharistic Minister. He was currently a member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Richmond, KY. Allan loved to read and take care of his lawn, but his favorite hobby was baking, and he was well known for his chocolate chip cookies and brownies. Viewing from 4:00 PM-8:00 PM Thursday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main Street, Boswell where a vigil for the deceased will be held 4PM Thursday. Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM Friday at All Saints Catholic Church, Boswell, with Rev. Fr. John Voytek, OFM Conv., Celebrant. Interment St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Boswell. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Mark Catholic School, 608 W. Main Street, Richmond, KY, 40475, or to the Alzheimer’s Association, in Allan’s memory, would be appreciated.
