John "Jack"  Maggs
MAGGS – John “Jack”, 84, Hooversville (Pretoria), died August 14, 2018 at his home. Born December 16, 1933 in Pretoria. Son of Isaac and Sarah (Nicholas) Maggs. Preceded in death by parents; infant son Jeffrey Allen Maggs; daughter Saundra Maggs; sisters Harriet Hines, Betty and her husband Mossie Greig, Geraldine and her husband Frank Rayman and brother William Maggs and his wife Elaine. Survived by wife of 63 years Ruth (Wain) Maggs; children Pamela married to Andrew DiSalvo, Huntingdon; John, Jr., married to Michelle (Toth) Maggs, Johnstown and Lori Maggs, Davidsville; grandchildren Angela Rector, Central City; Jeff Rector, Seanor and Sara Maggs, Johnstown; sister Ida Mae married to George Ellis, El Paso, TX; brothers-in-law Terry Wain and wife Sally, Ravenna, OH and Richard Wain and wife Brigida, Las Vegas, NV and numerous nieces and nephews. Jack was known for his auto body repair and mechanical skills and was owner/operator of Maggs Garage & Towing, which he started on June 6, 1955. He also processed scrap metal for Kantner Iron & Steel for 20 years. In his younger days, he was involved in dirt track auto racing. He also enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his buddies at the garage. Viewing from 6-8PM Friday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville where a service will be held 10AM Saturday with Pastor Abby Shaffer presiding. A private inurnment will be held at a later date at Custer Cemetery. Donations in Jack’s memory may be sent to a charity of your choice.
