Obituary for David W. Gaudlip Sr.

GAUDLIP – David W. Sr., 87, Johnstown,formerly of Jerome, died at his home surrounded by his family on May 2, 2019 from a broken heart after losing the love of his life less than 2 months ago. Born August 24, 1931 in Portage. Son of Joseph and Catherine (Cadwallder) Gaudlip. Preceded in death by parents; loving wife of 64 years Ella Mae (Eckenrode) Gaudlip on March 4, 2019; mother and father-in-law Earl and Anna Ekenrode; sister Alberta Smith; brother Joseph Gaudlip, Jr; brother-in-law Patrick Eckenrode and sister-in-law Emma Shaulis. Survived by sons David, Jr. married to Rhonda (Yoder), Statesville, NC; Craig married to Lisa (Schiffhauer), Jerome and Darrin married to Cathy (Marker), Berlin; daughter Andrea married to Randy Roberts, Johnstown; grandchildren Alicia, Brock, Adam (Barb), Nicole (Vinny) and Amber (Christopher) Gaudlip, Derek (Stephanie), Josh (Flori) and Nicholas (Carly) Szala and Elizabeth Budzina; great grandchildren Austin and Logan Wienand, Kinsleigh Gaudlip and Amelia Dodson; brothers Jack (Verna) Gaudlip, Hooversville and James (Mary Ann) Gaudlip, Avon Park, FL and sisters Kathleen Berkey, Jerome and Barbara (Eugene) Szymanski, Springfield, VA; sister-in-law Shirley married to Michael Budzina, Boswell; numerous nieces and nephews and special niece Amy Glover. A 1949 graduate of Conemaugh Township High School. A U.S. Army veteran of Korean War having volunteered for two tours of duty. Retired coal miner for U.M.W.A. Member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Lilly. David loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He loved spoiling his grandchildren; they were his world. Each one had a special nickname and he enjoyed taking them on vacation, camping and out to eat. With their Pap they talked nonsense, learned a few curse words and exchanged gag gifts. Friends received from 4-7PM Monday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville where a service will be held 11AM Tuesday with Pastor John D. Hollis presiding.
