Obituary for Ida Mae Ellis (Maggs)

ELLIS - Ida Mae (Maggs), 97, passed away on May 6 in El Paso, TX. Born January 5, 1922 in Morrisdale, PA. Daughter of the late Isaac and Sarah (Nicholas) Maggs. She grew up in Pretoria and graduated in 1941 from Conemaugh Township High School and later from Holmes Junior College in Goodman, MS. In 1945, Ida Mae enlisted in the U.S. Women’s Army Corps. She was assigned to the 117th WAC Hospital Company, William Beaumont Army Hospital in El Paso. It was there that she met the love of her life George V. Ellis. They were married in 1946. Ida Mae was discharged from the WACs and followed her husband in his military career. In 1976, Ida Mae and George retired in El Paso. A member of Western Hills United Methodist Church, El Paso. She was an amazing cookie baker and loved to share her goodies with her family and friends. Ida Mae is survived by her husband. They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary in 2018. She was predeceased by her daughter Cynthia Mae Ellis; son George V. Ellis, Jr.; brothers William and Jack Maggs and sisters Harriet Hines, Betty Greig and Geraldine Rayman. Viewing from 1PM until time of service 2PM Saturday, May 11 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville with Pastor David B. Bowman presiding.
