Obituary for Donald E. Speigle

SPEIGLE - Donald E., 95, Davidsville, formerly of Boswell Route 1, passed away June 21, 2019 at Laurel View Village, Davidsville. Born May 26, 1924 in Jenner Township, Somerset County. Son of Lawrence and Margaret (Blough) Speigle. Preceded in death by parents; son Gary D. Speigle; sisters Trella and Cora Speigle, Edith Miller, Erma Hostetler and Twila Ogburn and brothers Oscar, Richard, Paul and Dalton Speigle. Survived by wife of 61 years Grace A. (Mishler) Speigle; children Harlan married to Sheri (Hanson), Hollsopple; Robert married to Danita (Thomas), Boswell; Dwight, Davidsville; David married to Michelle (Smith), Boswell; Karen married to Kenneth Gonyer, Broadway, VA and Nancy married to David Smith, Dayton, VA; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Don was a graduate of Johnstown Bible School and Eastern Mennonite College, Harrisonburg, VA. He served two terms at a bible school in Kentucky. He started ministering at Hyasota Mennonite Church and then pastored at Thomas Mennonite Church, Thomas Mills for 17 years where he was currently still a member. Was interim pastor at First Mennonite Church, Johnstown, served on the Mission & Service Commission for the Mennonite Allegheny Conference and ministered in prisons in Somerset and Cambria counties. He also drove school bus for Griffith Transportation and worked in masonry construction and farming. In his spare time Don enjoyed gardening in his back yard. The family would like to thank the staff of Laurel View Village and Windber Hospice for their compassionate care given to Don. Viewing from 2-4 & 6-8PM Monday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville. Viewing also from 10AM until time of service 11AM Tuesday at Thomas Mennonite Church with Pastor Randall Schlabach and Pastor Wes Yoder presiding. Interment Blough Mennonite Cemetery.
