Obituary for Joshua Michael Szala

SZALA - Joshua Michael, 27, Johnstown, died unexpectedly August 1, 2019. Born June 1, 1992 in Bethlehem, PA. Preceded in death by “Pap” and “Gee”, David and Ella (Eckenrode) Gaudlip. Survived by his loving girlfriend Flori Davila and her daughter Patricia, with whom he shared his life, along with his cat Ziegler; mother Andrea (Gaudlip) Roberts and step-father Randy; father Kenneth Szala and step-mother Jeanne; brothers Derek “Darrellbill” (Steph) and Nicholas “NuNu” (Carly “Carlito”); sister Elizabeth “Bird”; niece Amelia; grandparents “Pappy” and “Bubba”, Virgil and Elizabeth Joann Szala; uncles Dave (Rhonda), Craig (Lisa) and Darrin (Cathy) Gaudlip and Virg (Mary) and Jim (Teressa) Szala and aunt Sherry (Charles) Kist. He also had many cousins with whom he enjoyed getting into mischief; his childhood friends, who were more like siblings, Shannon and Dan King and his best friend Michael Lesney. Josh’s family was his world, but he showed up late to every function. If you knew Josh, you remembered Josh. He was the type of person you only had to say “Hi” to and he became your friend. He was the easiest person to talk to and the best at talking you into things. Josh was footloose and fancy free. He had a nickname for everybody. If your name was Tonebuzz, Treebeard, Fish, Popster, Spurgel, Dank, Redback, Sheesha, Coondog, Kansas, Chubby Lou, Cupcake or Popn’Rob you were loved. Even his Statesville, NC family is missing his sense of humor and chill personality. He was a 2010 graduate of Penn Cambria High School. He attended UPJ where he studied business finance and was a member of the Delta Sigma Chi Fraternity. Josh was employed by Five Star Powersports, Altoona where he was a member of their small family. He loved his job and those with whom he worked. Josh enjoyed being outdoors where he hunted, fished, hiked and rafted with friends and family. Josh was so happy the day he purchased his motorcycle and he loved to ride. So, here’s to you Googer, Boss, Ginko Woods, Wildcat, Zorro; here’s to honor one last chin slide and cheek fill. You are forever loved and life will never be the same without you. Viewing from 2-8PM Monday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville. A memorial service will be held 11AM Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, 906 Caldwell Ave., Portage, PA 15946 with Pastor Phyllis Diamond presiding. There will be no viewing at the church.
