Obituary for Lorene F. Saylor (Kaufman)

SAYLOR – Lorene F. (Kaufman), 90, Soap Hollow, went to be with the Lord August 21, 2019 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Born January 9, 1929 in Soap Hollow. Daughter of Calvin E. and Margaret A. (Shetler) Kaufman. Preceded in death by parents, husband of 63 years Merle Saylor on October 21, 2008 and brothers Melvin and Rev. Marvin Kaufman. Survived by children Rev. Amelia J. married to Rev. Dr. Horace Derr, Nanty Glo; Karen married to David Longenecker, Mt. Joy and Craig M. married to Carolyn (Chirico) Saylor, Hollsopple; grandchildren Rev. Dr. Kevin Derr (Patricia), Angela Derr, Jonilyn (John) Yoder, Anthony Saylor (Nichole), Katie (Zachary) Wallace and Nicholas Saylor; great-grandchildren Nicole and Alex Decker, Kevin Broderick Derr, Nora Saylor, Colson Yoder and baby on the way Elsie Saylor; brother Gerald Kaufman and wife Marlene, Brownstown; sister Rhonda married to Mel Blough, Soap Hollow and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. In 1944 she was a member of the first graduating class of former Johnstown Mennonite School, now Johnstown Christian School. Attended Hesston Academy in Hesston, KS. Former Telephone Operator for Citizen’s Telephone Co. in Soap Hollow and was a substitute teacher for Johnstown Mennonite School. A very active member of Carpenter Park Mennonite Church. She led Bible studies at local nursing homes and volunteered at World’s Attic, Somerset. Lorene enjoyed cooking, playing piano, reading, writing short stories and vacationing in Montana. She would often send letters and cards of encouragement to friends and family. Friends received from 2-4 & 6-8PM Friday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville. Friends also received from 10AM until time of service 11AM Saturday at Carpenter Park Mennonite Church with Rev. D. Wayne Lasure presiding. Interment Stahl Mennonite Cemetery at a later date.
