John H.  Rice
RICE – John H., 85, Boswell, died April 25, 2015, at his home. Born April 21, 1930, in Boswell, son of Jacob E. and Josephine (Smith) Rice. Preceded in death by parents; first wife, former Patricia Hurst, Feb. 28, 1987; second wife, former Ella (Rhoads) Overton, July 4, 1999; one infant sister; four infant brothers; and sister, Sandra. Survived by children, John A. “Jack,” Boswell; Tracey, Chicago; and Paul J., married to Janet Lynn Yost, Boswell; grandchildren, John Patrick Rice, Marina Rice and Randy and Cheyenne Rice; and stepchildren, John Overton Jr., and wife, Sharon, Rockwood; Cindy, and husband, Rick Froelich, Johnstown; Elaine Lepley and Diane Kingera, both of Boswell; Yvonne, and husband, Fred Robertson, Meyersdale; and Roy Overton, and wife, Viola, Central City. Brother of Betty, married to Joseph S. Zablotney, Boswell; Gloria, widow of Robert Pope, Fishertown; and Janet Craig, Berlin. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and his faithful canine friend, Buddy. U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. Retired employee of former Bethlehem Steel Corp., Johnstown. Member of All Saints Catholic Parish, where he ushered for many years and was a past member of the Knights of Columbus. Also member of Boswell Post 461 American Legion. Viewing will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hoffman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 409 Main St., Boswell, where vigil for the deceased will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral Mass at noon Wednesday at All Saints Church, Boswell, the Rev. Father Martin Cingle, celebrant.
