Obituary for Alvin M. Berkey

BERKEY – Alvin M., 77, Jerome, died Dec. 21, 2015, at Country Manor, Jerome. Born Aug. 14, 1938, in Johnstown, son of Albert and Iva Dean Berkey. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, James, Richard and Charles; and sisters, Marion and Iva Dean. Survived by wife of 57 years, Kathleen M. (Gaudlip) Berkey; son, Mark A., married to Cheryl (Winski) Berkey, Jerome; sister, Blaudwin “Kay,” Philadelphia; sisters-in-law, Jean Berkey, Johnstown; and Barbara, married to Eugene Szymanski, Virginia; brothers-in- law, Mark Weimer, Melbourne, Fla.; David Gaudlip, and wife, Ella Mae, Johnstown; Jack Gaudlip, and wife, Verna, Hooversville; and James Gaudlip, and wife, Mary Ann, Grove City, Fla.; and numerous nieces, nephews, granddogs and grandcats. A retired purchasing manager for PBS Coal Co. Member of St. Anne Catholic Church, Davidsville. Al raced cars at Jennerstown Speedway for many years and was an avid NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed spending time doing yardwork. He was a loving husband and father who was always willing to help anyone in need. At Al’s request, there will be no viewing. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until time of funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, at St. Anne Catholic Church, Davidsville, the Rev. Father Karl Kolodziejski, celebrant.
