Richard Leon "Pete"  Peterson
PETERSON – Richard Leon “Pete,” 70, Waterford, Vt., passed away unexpectedly at home Dec. 27, 2015. Born March 5, 1945, in Boswell, son of Charles and Louise (Holeva) Peterson. Preceded in death by parents; son, Ronald Peterson; and siblings, Ray, Bob and Don Peterson and Helen Kaminski. Survived by his wife of 33 years, Elaine; son, Edward Charles Peterson, and his wife, Mary Ellen, Salem, Conn.; daughter, Bobbi-Anne Ward, and her husband, Raymond, Ivoryton, Conn.; stepchildren, Susan Brady, and her fiance, Daniel Collins, North Stonington, Conn.; Robert Sanford, and his wife, Sasha, Essex, Conn.; William Sanford, and his wife, Tina Naugatuck, Conn.; and Sherry Lefebvre, and her husband, Stephen, New Zealand; and siblings, Gladys Furman, Somerset; Dave Peterson, Longview, Texas; and Millard Peterson, Somerset. He also left many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends who will miss him dearly. A 1963 graduate of JBJ Joint High School, Boswell. At the age of 18, he joined the Navy and served from 1963 to 1969. While in the Navy, he served on a nuclear submarine during the Vietnam War. He was awarded a Vietnam Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. After he was honorably discharged from the Navy, he made his career as a maintenance supervisor at Northeast Utilities (Millstone Nuclear Power Plant) in Connecticut for more than 30 years before retiring. After retirement, Richard and his wife built a log cabin home in Vermont where many fond memories were made with family and friends. One of Richard’s many motto’s was “When in Vermont, you do what you want.” He was an avid hunter, fisherman, outdoorsman and a proud member of the NRA. He was an amazing chef and proudly served his meals to all. After making his home in Vermont, Richard became a member of the American Legion in St. Johnsbury. He was well-known for his homemade pickled eggs which he shared every Wednesday evening. Richard always had a story to tell and a hand to lend, thinking of others before he thought of himself. We truly lost a wonderful man. A memorial service was held in Connecticut. A memorial service also will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 327 Allegheny St., Boswell, Pastor Michael A. Dunlap, presiding. Inurnment, Jenner Crossroads Cemetery, with military honors by Somerset County Honor Guard. A dinner will then be served at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Arrangements by Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Boswell.
