John S. "Big John"  Matkoskey Sr.
MATKOSKEY – John S., Sr., “Big John”, 91, Acosta, died August 8, 2017 at Somerset Hospital. Born January 4, 1926 in Werum, PA. Son of Nick, Sr. and Nellie (Homach) Matkoskey. Preceded in death by parents; wife Faye E. (Gettings) Matkoskey; son John, Jr.; infant sister Anna; twin brother Charles, brothers Nick, Jr., Harry and George; grandson Joseph and sons-in-law Ricky Wilkins and Jerry Holiday. Survived by children Judy Holiday, Kimmelton; Pam married to Brian Costea, Kimmelton; George married to Kim (Dobrowolski), Chester, WV; Peggy Wilkins, David married to Jenny (Koba) and Nick married to Annie (Tunstall) all of Acosta and Tina married to Jeff Shaffer, Friedens; daughter-in-law Kasey Matkoskey-Waite, Friedens; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; sister-in-law Sarah Matkoskey, Youngstown, OH, several nieces and nephews and pet cat Topaz. Retired Supervisor for Gulf & Western Mine Division (Solar Fuel). Employed for 42 years in area coal mines. Member of Jenner Rod & Gun Club, Somerset Post 554 VFW and Somerset Post 181 American Legion. John had a wonderful sense of humor. He was an avid Steelers and Penguins fan and also enjoyed playing games of chance, tinkering around his house and spending time with family and friends. Viewing from 2-4 & 6-8PM Friday and from10AM until time of service 11AM Saturday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main Street, Boswell with Pastor Jim Gay presiding.
